eSIM Not Working? Seven Fixes That Solve Almost Every Case
An eSIM that shows no service is almost always a settings issue rather than a broken plan. Work through these in order.
1. Check the plan has started Most travel plans activate when they first connect to a network in the destination country, not when you install them. If you are still at home, no data is expected.
2. Turn data roaming on for the eSIM line This is the single most common cause. A travel eSIM roams onto partner networks, so roaming must be enabled on that line. It does not cost extra - your plan is the roaming agreement.
3. Set the eSIM as your mobile data line Installing the eSIM does not switch data to it. In your settings, choose the travel eSIM as the line used for cellular data.
4. Toggle airplane mode Thirty seconds on, then off. This forces a fresh network search and fixes a surprising number of cases after landing.
5. Select a network manually If automatic selection fails, turn off automatic network selection and pick a partner network from the list. Try the second one if the first refuses.
6. Check APN settings Rarely needed, but if data still fails after the steps above, confirm the APN matches what your plan documentation specifies.
7. Restart the phone Last resort, and genuinely effective when the modem has latched onto a failed registration.
If none of this works, the plan may not have provisioned correctly. Report the problem from the eSIM detail screen in the app - if no data has been used, you get a free replacement eSIM automatically.
